Foreword:
I dare say it has been over two decades since the notion of composing a series about the world chess champions first crossed my mind. Now that the opportune moment appears to have arrived, it is time to bring this idea to fruition. There is scarcely more to be said on this matter, save perhaps that it is quite fitting to adopt Mr. Steinitz as my alter ego in this endeavor, given that one of the principal topics of this website is indeed chess.
Our series will cover all the world championship matches sanctioned by FIDE, with the exception of certain recent contests during which FIDE and the chess world were at odds. We shall have occasion to elaborate on that in due course.
As a prelude, we shall delve into the life of a player active before any official world championships were held: Paul Morphy. The reason for this is his extraordinary dominance against the strongest players of his time.
So here it is: World Chess Champions Chapter 1,
Or you can choose to go right into the section World Chess Champions, where you can browse freely among the chapters and biographies.
Enjoy!
